Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Legislation

The main Directive for the use of PPE in Europe is

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Directive (Directive 89/686/EEC).


Guidance on implemetation of this is available at:European Guidance on PPE. This directive's primary intention was to remove the need for testing and documentation for each seperate member state and covers a very wide range of products including Chainsaw PPE

The European Directive and Uk Regulation are being reviewed as their is difficulty implementing the Directive uniformly across all member states. Work must still be carried out to standardise testing procedures and self certification programs.

Industry Good Practice for the use of chainsaw PPE is availble from the HSE in the form of AFAG leaflets. For example:
